A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN...

Putting on God‘s Armour

Greetings Chinook Family,
In Ephesians 6:10-18 the apostle Paul under the direction of the Holy Spirit gave us this powerful VISUAL to prepare us as God‘s people for the Christian fight.
It‘s crucial to understand that our fight cannot be fought from within, that is why Paul says this. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Verse 10. Friend we cannot depend on our own strength to fight this battle, we must be strong in Him alone who has come to save us.

Paul then said that we must “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”   During Paul‘s imprisonment he had much time to see the Roman soldier's armour up close and God inspired him to give us this picture of how we must also prepare ourselves as Children of God for battle.
Items Christians need in preparing for battle:
#1.  “We must gird our waist with the truth.”  In other words we must as the Roman soldier would, put on the thick leather belt around their waist to then attach the rest of the armour,  we must also attach the truth – the truth of God and His word around us, for only with God‘s truth will we be ready to fight the enemy that is not flesh and blood.
#2. “Put on the breastplate of righteousness.”  After placing the belt on, the soldiers would attach the breastplate to the thick leather belt, this way the belt and breastplate would remain together as the soldier would fight.  So too we must have the truth and breastplate of righteousness attached, in other words we must daily remember that we are not saved by our strength, but because of our righteous Saviour and Lord.
#3 “Having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”  How important it is for the Christian, that just as we must put on our shoes daily to walk, we too must daily prepare ourselves by reading the Word of God and then go out, walking on these feet of ours to share the gospel of peace.
#4 “Taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one.”  As the soldier would dip his shield in water before battle, to be ready for the fiery arrows that would fly at him, we too must dip our shield (our hearts) in Jesus, the One who is our living water and calls us to trust Him and call on His name.
#5 “Taking the helmet of Salvation.” No soldier would dare go out without his helmet, that which would protect his head from the blows or flying objects.  So too we must put on the helmet of Salvation, we must grasp the reality, put it on, embrace the message of Jesus - that we are saved today, that heaven is already living with us, because God has promised to dwell in His children and that one day He will come to take us home.
#6 “Sword of the Spirit.” No soldier would leave without his sword, how could he fight without it?  So too we as followers of Jesus must never walk away without the Word of God at our side and in our minds.   To do so is certain death.
#7 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.”  The apostle Paul now encourages prayer, not just any simple prayer, but heartfelt, intense, serious, as if your life depended on it PRAYER.

Friends, if we are to have victory in this Christian walk, it is only because of Jesus.   Let us together put on the armour of God daily, seek His Word daily, ask for faith daily, and pray for each other daily, that we will all walk with assurance and peace that TODAY we are His children and that one day we will be ready to see Him coming.

Have a blessed week.

In Christ,
Paul Antunes
